Spin The Black Disc has been on fire this summer with weddings in Victoria. Right now I am operating at about 2 or 3 weddings most weeks of the summer and rest will not be had till the fall (right when my “real” job goes into ratings… ha).
So far I’ve had the chance to DJ a lot of mighty fine weddings and going over them all right now might prove to be more than my memory can handle.
I will say that venue can and is an important factor in having an “oh wow!” moment for your guests.
I DJ many weddings at Sea Cider House in Central Saanich which is a spectacular venue. Talk to my girl Alix; events@seacider.ca
A couple weeks ago I DJ’d the wedding of Cole and Darryl at The Wardroom. The Wardroom is part of CFB Esquimalt.
The Wardroom I think is like a military hotel? It is situated on a bluff overlooking the harbour and is absolutely brilliant.
If you’re thinking of that perfect Victoria Ocean Front wedding….honestly, and I’ve DJ’d a lot of places, I don’t think there is better place than the Wardroom. It can be a challenge to book the room and I will give the Delta Victoria a recommendation. The ceremony there puts you on the harbour too. The views from the reception room are of the Victoria harbour.
Another great West Coast Ocean Wedding spot would be the Sooke Harbour House. You’re taking your wedding out of the Capital Region… but the views and charm of that venue might be worth a party bus ride for your guests. Oh… and the food CRUSHES (so good).
Getting married in Victoria is awesome. I can see why Cole and Darryl made the trip from Yellowknife, NWT to do it with us here in the Capital of British Columbia.

I went to the mainland on the weekend to bring my daughter camping with Grandma and Grandpa. While there, my folk’s gifted me with their old mini-van.
That’s right, Spin The Black Disc has a SpinMobile!
Its a 1998 Dodge Caravan or Voyager… can’t remember. This beast is just shy of 200,000 km but runs great and will be a huge benefit for hauling gear to DJ weddings and DJ events!
Currently me and my Mrs. share a Jeep. And though I love the Jeep; it can be a tight fit packing my sub, speakers, lights, cables, stands, turntables, change of clothes and ME! into that thing.
Not to mention, my poor wife is without a car and I have to take the car-seat out with all the gear. Friends reading this blog post thinking of getting married… have two cars.
Friday I make another capital investment… speakers and a choice sub. I think I’ll need to rent a storage locker as running the business out of our little condo will be impossible and create new stress with all the gear in our bedroom.
Looking forward to Marc and Kara’s wedding, a wedding iPod playlist for Jax, and V.I.C. Fest this weekend!
